About the School
Horizon Teachers are working with a well-established primary pupil referral unit (PRU) located in the heart of Islington, dedicated to supporting children who have experienced challenges in mainstream education. The students, aged 5-11 present with a range of social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, often alongside complex behavioural profiles.


Key responsibilities and Role:

  • Provide consistent and tailored support to pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour, both in class and during unstructured times
  • Work closely with class teacher, SENCOs and therapeutic staff to deliver individualised learning and behaviour support plans
  • Use de-escalation techniques and a calm, emotionally regulated approach to manage incidents and promote positive behaviour
  • Assist in the delivery of a creative and engaging curriculum that promotes emotional literacy, resilience, and academic progress
  • Support pupil's personal care needs when required and ensure a safe, respectful learning environment always

What we are looking for:

  • Previous experience working in a PRU, SEMH or behaviour setting
  • A strong understanding of the challenges faced by pupils with SEMH needs and strategies to support them effectively
  • The ability to remain calm and consistent in high-pressure situations
  • Team Teach or similar de-escalation training (desirable but not essential)
