The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support a child with Autism in accessing the curriculum and fully participating in school life. The role involves providing tailored support both inside and outside the classroom, helping the pupil to develop independence, confidence, and positive relationships.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support for a child with Autism to access the curriculum effectively
  • Support learning activities within the classroom, adapting tasks where necessary
  • Assist with social communication, emotional regulation, and engagement with peers
  • Support the child during unstructured times such as playtime, lunchtime, and school trips
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and other professionals to implement individual support strategies
  • Monitor progress and contribute to reviews and planning meetings
  • Promote a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment at all times
 
About You
  • Patient, caring, and enthusiastic with a genuine interest in supporting children with special educational needs
  • Experience working with children with Autism or additional needs is desirable (training may be provided)
  • Able to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and families
  • Calm, flexible, and resilient, with a proactive approach to supporting learning and behaviour
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
