Teaching Assistant – Specialist Independent School

Are you looking for a Teaching Assistant role where you can genuinely change lives every day?

Horizon Teachers is working in partnership with an exceptional independent specialist school in Kingston upon Thames to recruit a dedicated Teaching Assistant for a full-time, long-term position starting this September.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a highly regarded school that provides an outstanding learning environment for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school has earned an excellent reputation for its nurturing ethos, ambitious curriculum and commitment to helping every young person achieve their full potential. Small class sizes, personalised learning and strong pastoral support create an environment where both pupils and staff can flourish.

Unlike many SEMH settings, this role does not involve regularly managing physically challenging behaviour. Instead, you'll work alongside experienced teachers and therapists, supporting pupils who benefit from structure, consistency and positive relationships. Every day is different, and every success—big or small—makes a genuine difference.

Based in the leafy borough of Kingston upon Thames, the school benefits from excellent transport links while offering a calm, welcoming setting that feels far removed from the pace of central London.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you'll work closely with teaching staff to support pupils both in and out of the classroom. You'll help deliver engaging learning activities, build positive relationships with students and encourage confidence, independence and resilience throughout the school day.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people, whether you already have experience in specialist education or are looking to develop a long-term career in SEN.
We are looking for someone who:
  • Has experience working with children or young people (school, youth work, coaching or care experience all considered)
  • Has a calm, patient and positive approach
  • Builds trusting relationships with pupils
  • Is resilient, adaptable and eager to learn
  • Is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs
  • Wants to become part of a collaborative and supportive school community
