Teaching Assistant

Role: SEMH/SEN Teaching Assistant (Primary Phase)
Hours: Full-Time | 8:30am – 4:00pm
Start date: 7th September 2026 Start
Salary: £515 - £550 per week
 
A specialist primary provision is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH/SEN Teaching Assistant to join its team from September 2026 on a full-time basis.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and additional Special Educational Needs (SEN) within a nurturing and highly supportive educational environment.
The Role
The successful candidate will:

• Support pupils within small class settings
• Provide targeted support on a 1:1 and 2:1 basis
• Assist in implementing individual education and behaviour support plans
• Help create a safe, engaging and positive learning environment
• Support pupils in developing social, emotional and communication skills
• Work closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals to meet pupils' individual needs
• Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies

The Ideal Candidate
Applicants should:

• Have experience working with children with SEMH needs and/or SEN
• Be patient, adaptable and committed to supporting vulnerable learners
• Have strong behaviour management skills and a calm, consistent approach
• Be able to build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues
• Demonstrate excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Be available to work full-time from September 2026

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

• Team Teach training/qualification (highly desirable)
• Previous experience within a specialist, alternative provision, SEN or SEMH setting
• Understanding of trauma-informed approaches and restorative practice

• A rewarding and varied role within a specialist educational setting
