SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary School | Merton, South West London
A well-run, two-form entry primary school in Merton is looking for an SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. The school is easy to reach, with reliable links via the London Underground and National Rail, as well as several local bus routes—making it a straightforward commute from across South West and Central London.
We are working on behalf of the school and have placed staff there previously, so we can give you a clear picture of what to expect.
This is a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant position supporting pupils with additional needs in a mainstream primary setting. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCo, providing 1:1 and small group support. The needs in the school include ASD and speech and language, so experience in either area would be useful.

The school:
  • Two-form entry primary with a well-structured leadership team
  • Consistent approach to behaviour, with clear systems in place
  • Strong focus on early identification and SEN support
  • Good staff retention – several TAs and teachers have been there long-term
  • Supportive environment for new staff, including those coming from care or support work backgrounds
  • Classrooms are well resourced and organised, making day-to-day work manageable
What they’re looking for:
  • Experience working with children or young people
  • A calm, reliable approach and the ability to build trust with pupils
  • An interest in supporting children with SEN
  • Good communication and willingness to take direction from teaching staff
Why work with Horizon Teachers?
  • Competitive pay rates with ongoing support from an experienced team
  • Flexible payment options to suit your preferences
  • Ongoing support throughout your placement
  • Earn up to £300 in vouchers for successful referrals.
  • One of the highest rated agencies with a 4.9* Google review rating from teachers and support staff.

If you’re looking for a straightforward, well-supported SEN role in a school that runs properly day to day, this is worth considering.
