We are delighted to be working with a welcoming, inclusive and supportive primary school in Barnet that is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team to provide personalised support that helps pupils feel confident, included and ready to learn.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with additional needs
Supporting children with a range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties and social, emotional and behavioural needs
Helping pupils access the curriculum through differentiated and engaging activities
Supporting children’s academic, social and emotional development
Encouraging independence, confidence and positive relationships
Supporting pupils with their communication and interaction skills
Helping children manage emotions and develop positive behaviour strategies
Working closely with teachers to implement individual support strategies
Supporting interventions and targeted learning activities
Creating a calm, safe and nurturing classroom environment
Celebrating pupil progress and encouraging children to recognise their achievements

Previous SEN experience is desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from candidates with relevant experience in childcare, youth work, mentoring, care, support work or similar settings who are keen to develop a career within education.

From the start, Paul (Primary Team) and David (Secondary Team) have both been incredibly supportive, approachable, and professional, making the whole process smooth and reassuring. I’ve been working with both a primary and a secondary consultant, and the communication between them has been excellent. They’ve always been available to answer questions and provide guidance whenever needed. The support I received before starting my placement was especially helpful. My consultant gave me great insight into the school, which really helped me feel prepared and confident going in. I also completed their Teaching Assistant training, along with Safeguarding Level 1 and Level 2, which were both very informative and valuable. A special thanks to David for checking in with me when things were a bit challenging — it really made a difference and showed genuine care and support.
