Website Horizon Teachers

he role A well-regarded specialist school for pupils with autism in Haringey n is looking for an SEN Class Teacher to take a primary class on a long-term basis, with a genuine view to permanent for the right person.

You’ll lead a small class of pupils, all with an EHCP, supported by a team of  teaching assistants who know the children well. Class sizes are small, the staffing ratios are high, and the school gives its teachers the time and training to do the job properly.
The setting has an experienced leadership team, an on-site therapy team you’ll work alongside daily, and a strong culture of low-arousal, relational practice. They are looking for someone who wants to build something with them, not just fill a term.
ECTs with SEND experience are welcome to apply.

What you’ll be doing

  • Planning and delivering a personalised curriculum matched to each pupil’s EHCP outcomes and stage of development
  • Using autism-specific approaches day to day — structured teaching, visual supports, workstations, PECS, Makaton and AAC
  • Embedding communication, regulation, independence and life skills across the whole school day
  • Tracking progress on [Evidence for Learning / B Squared], writing reports and leading Annual Reviews
  • Leading and deploying your class team, and modelling the strategies that work for each child
  • Contributing to Positive Behaviour Support plans and taking a calm, low-arousal approach to behaviour
  • Working closely with SaLT, OT and the wider therapy team, and building open relationships with families

What we’re looking for

  • Qualified Teacher Status — essential
  • Experience of teaching pupils with SEND, in a special school, resource base or mainstream primary
  • Sound understanding of autism, the SEND Code of Practice and the EHCP process
  • Confidence planning for pupils working significantly below age-related expectations
  • Calm, patient and resilient, with high expectations and real flexibility in how you get there
  • Willingness to train in the school’s physical intervention framework [Team Teach / PROACT-SCIPr] and to support personal care needs
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for a new one
  • Two references covering the last two years of employment

What’s on offer

  • Long-term role with a clear route to permanent on Inner London MPS/UPS plus SEN allowance
  • Small classes, high ratios and an established, supportive class team
  • Excellent autism-specific CPD training.

Lovely working with Horizon teachers. Especially with Alexa who helped place me in SEN TA work and has recently found me a wonderful permanent placement in a school. Super grateful!!

I’ve had a really amazing and positive experience with the team since joining. From the start, Paul (Primary Team) and David (Secondary Team) have both been incredibly supportive, approachable, and professional, making the whole process smooth and reassuring. I’ve been working with both a primary and a secondary consultant, and the communication between them has been excellent. They’ve always been available to answer questions and provide guidance whenever needed. The support I received before starting my placement was especially helpful. My consultant gave me great insight into the school, which really helped me feel prepared and confident going in. I also completed their Teaching Assistant training, along with Safeguarding Level 1 and Level 2, which were both very informative and valuable. A special thanks to David for checking in with me when things were a bit challenging — it really made a difference and showed genuine care and support. Overall, I’ve felt well-supported throughout my journey so far and would definitely recommend their service to others. Ahmed.

When I registered with Horizon, I was fearful of it being just like the rest. The ones that create empty promises to keep your interest and who want to benefit more from your hardwork than yourself. Melanie proved that Horizon was a cut above the rest. From the very start, Melanie was keen on getting employment that fulfilled my wishes. She stayed in contact to inform me of potential positions and offered me clear advice in order to secure the ideal post. Even after that, Melanie still contacts me to ensure all is well. I have and will continue to recommend Horizon and Melanie to other persons in the educational field.

I've been working under Horizon as a TA since early Dec, and have only compliments. My agency contact, Alexa, has been great at providing information, fixing any miscommunications and has personally chased after my timesheet approvals. I have already recommended Horizon to friends as well as a coworker who had problems with their own agency and I would definitely recommend Horizon again as a great agency for TA's.

Its a good agency, they got me a long term placement very quickly that started in November and I'm still in that placement. They didn't prep me anything about the school other than where it is, the age group and department that I'll be in but, I'm sure if I had asked for more details they would have provided them without issue. The agency consultant staff are very friendly and always try their best to help out!!

I’ve been working with Horizon Teaching for several months now in an SEN school, and my experience has been very positive. The whole process from starting out to being placed in a school was quick and smooth. I’d especially like to mention David, who I’ve been working with since September. He has been incredibly supportive, always approachable, and very quick to respond to any questions or concerns. He takes feedback positively and acts on it, always doing his best to meet requirements and make sure everything runs smoothly. David also genuinely looks after staff, which makes a big difference. Thank you David and the Horizon Teaching team — I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to work in schools.
