THE ROLE

We are recruiting on behalf of a primary school in Harrow for a talented and nurturing Nursery Teacher. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a Nursery class and play a pivotal role in shaping the earliest educational experiences of children aged 3–4.

Working within a supportive Early Years team, you will plan and deliver a rich, play-based curriculum that sparks curiosity and builds strong foundations in communication, personal development and early literacy and numeracy. You will know your children deeply, build trusted relationships with families, and create a learning environment where every child feels safe, seen and excited to come in each day.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan, prepare and deliver engaging, play-based learning experiences in line with the EYFS Statutory Framework.
Maintain a stimulating, safe and inclusive classroom environment that reflects children’s interests and promotes independence.
Use accurate, ongoing formative assessment (including observations and learning journeys) to track each child’s development and inform next steps.
Differentiate provision to meet the needs of all learners, including children with EAL, SEN and those who are Gifted and Talented.
Build warm, professional relationships with parents and carers — sharing progress, celebrating achievements and raising concerns promptly.
Lead and manage classroom support staff, delegating effectively and ensuring a consistent, high-quality learning experience.
Contribute to EYFS planning meetings, staff development and school-wide initiatives.
Complete statutory baseline assessments and contribute to Nursery-to-Reception transition planning.
Liaise with the SENCO and external professionals where children have additional needs or are being assessed for SEND support.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS) — essential
Proven experience teaching or leading in a Nursery or EYFS setting.
Strong knowledge of the EYFS Statutory Framework and Development Matters.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills — confident with both children and families.
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
Right to work in the UK.
Two professional references covering the last two years.

DESIRABLE

Experience leading the Nursery or Early Years provision.
Knowledge of Tapestry or similar learning journey platforms.
Experience supporting children with EAL — particularly relevant in Harrow’s diverse school community.
Understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and experience supporting pupils with EHCPs.
Paediatric First Aid certificate (PFA).

I’ve been working with both a primary and a secondary consultant, and the communication between them has been excellent. They’ve always been available to answer questions and provide guidance whenever needed. The support I received before starting my placement was especially helpful. My consultant gave me great insight into the school, which really helped me feel prepared and confident going in. I also completed their Teaching Assistant training, along with Safeguarding Level 1 and Level 2, which were both very informative and valuable. A special thanks to David for checking in with me when things were a bit challenging — it really made a difference and showed genuine care and support.
