Learning Support Assistant

£65 - £95 per day
Specialist Learning Support Assistant. Special Education Needs and Disabilities Pupil Referral Unit. Croydon £65 - £95 per day Start date: January 2019 Are you passionate about supporting children in a Special Educational Needs setting? Are you keen to make a difference in children's learning experience and support them to be the best they can be? Horizon Teachers have been supporting Specialist and Mainstream Early Years, Primary and Secondary settings across London for the past 10 years. We are hugely passionate about finding people who are motivated, dedicated and engaging to join these school teams and make a difference in the children's lives and we are now looking for Specialist Learning Support Assistants to work in Specialist Pupil Referral units in the South East of London. We are working with Provisions based in Croydon who offer children a varied and exciting curriculum in order to support pupils to engage in their learning. Children who attend settings like these, have not had the most stable start to their education and are at risk of being excluded or have been excluded due a variety of reasons. Due to not having the most positive education experience, children that attend these schools have a negative perception of school life in general, and so Staff support these children to find ways to enjoy their learning, manage their own behaviours, emotions and anxieties and be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve and have the ability to make positive contributions to their communities. The schools believe that every child matters, and every child should have a happy and fulfilling school life, and the staff work with the children to achieve this and move on to either further education or work outside education. You dont need experience to work in a Pupil Referral Unit, but to be a successful Learning Support Assistant and to give the best to the children who attend these settings you need to be: Resilient Positive - Some of the children have had a negative view of their school life, and also had many negative and distressing experiences outside of their learning environment, so the staff must exude positivity as this will impact hugely on the pupils mood and their whole time in the school. Proactive - Children and the Schools love it when staff get involved with all the activities, and think of new activities that will engage the children in their learning. Dont sit on the sidelines! If there's something that needs to be done, get involved! Creative - Children will express themselves through drama, music, art and sports. If you show an interest in these things the children will engage with you and are much more likely to want to spend time learning with you. Strong behaviour management skills. - As part of their difficulties children who learn in settings like these can struggle to express their emotions, their feelings and at times may show different behaviours. Staff will positively support children who are expressing these behaviours and give them tools to manage what they are feeling at the time. If this sounds like you, we want to hear from you! We can offer Long term and short term work in settings like these, so if you are looking to build your skill set and really have a desire and a curiosity to work with children with Special Educational Needs then please call the SEND team at Horizon Teachers on 0207 4440009. If you have a friend, colleague or even a family member looking to work in Special Educational Needs settings across London, or wants to work within mainstream education, let us know! We have a great refer a friend scheme and you can get up to £200 vouchers once they have worked 20 days with us. So what are you waiting for?
