A position has just become available from 7th January 2019 to work as a Teaching Assistant in a Mainstream Primary School supporting pupils who are Deaf and Hearing Impaired. The school is based in the London borough of Tower Hamlets and has excellent transport links.
The Teaching Assistant will be working on a Full Time basis from Monday to Friday (term time only) between the hours of 8.30am and 4pm, ideal hours for applicants who have young children. The position will be to work in the school's Designated Provision for Deaf and Hearing Impaired pupils which consists of children between the ages of 5 and 11. Pupils who are Deaf are supported in designated classrooms where staff have access to specialist resources to support their individual needs. The Teaching Assistant will support a qualified Teacher of the Deaf who is BSL trained and will plan lessons for pupils tailored to their needs. The school provides pupils with cochlear implants provided by the Local Authority which are maintained on site and allow children who are Hearing Impaired to access the school's mainstream curriculum.
- Experience supporting children or adults who are deaf or Hearing Impaired
- Ideally a BSL qualification (minimum level 1) although the school can arrange training on this
- Confident at signing
- Clear spoken English - must be a good communicator
- Minimum Grade C in GCSE Maths and English
- Good knowledge of the Primary national curriculum
The school is a large building providing places to children from Nursery to Year 6 and as much as possible will integrate children who are Hearing Impaired into classes. They have a large outdoor play area, parking facilities and excellent resources within each classroom.
The successful Teaching Assistant will be working on supply through Horizon Teachers on a Long term basis, at least until the end of the academic year (July 2019). This position will likely continue into the next academic year and possibly beyond. We have have Teaching Assistants who have worked in the School for several years so if you are looking for consistency this could be the role for you!
