Horizon Teachers have been working with Specialist and Mainstream Early Years, Primary and Secondary Settings for the past 10 years and we are experts in our field.
The SEND team are looking for a Specialist Learning Support assistant to support in a KS3 class in a Special Needs and Disabilities School based in Mile End. This School supports children with a range of Multiple difficulties, disabilities and Speech and language difficulties and staff who support in this school will engage with the children through a variety of different medias including art, drama, play, sensory play, and working on developing their fine and gross motor skills. Staff will also support the children to enhance their communication skills, social and emotional wellbeing as well as making their learning experience as varied and exciting as possible and enables the children to make sense of the world.
As an Specialist Special Educational Needs Teaching assistant, you will be supporting the progress of all students, across different ages and abilities. This is a secondary school so experience working with children from 11-16 is preferable, Due to the Children's needs, there also may be elements of providing support in personal care.
In order to provide pupils across the school with experiences that are relevant, interesting and challenging, and to identify opportunities for progression, The school has adopted a curriculum structure with 3 broad levels: pre-formal, semi-formal and formal. These levels are not defined by age but by need and achievement; pupils may therefore move from one level to the next at any point in their school career. Each level covers skills, knowledge and understanding across a range of subjects.
This role is to start as soon as possible and will continue until the end of the Academic year so this is a great opportunity to learn new skills, spend time in a specialist school and work with a fabulous group of kids and staff.
You do not need previous experience working with Children with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties before. However you do need:
The ability to engage with all a variety of children with different abilities and learning levels and give them the best learning experience possible.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt your communication style to the level of the child you are supporting, so they are fully engaged at all times.
Be adaptable - The children will all have different learning needs and it is important to adapt to each need so they can thrive and have fun during their school day.
Respect their adolescent and young people status
Reflect and celebrate their multi-cultural diversity
Extend their range of experiences
Provide equal access to all pupils across the curriculum
