Horizon Teachers have been working with Specialist,Mainstream, Primary, Secondary and Early Years settings across London for the past 10 years.

We are working with vibrant and engaging School settings in Bexley and South East London that support children who have challenging behaviours and emotional difficulties. These Schools are looking for Behaviuour Mentor and Support Assistants to join their teams. These schools support children who struggle to regulate their own feelings and thoughts and due to many factors including communication frustrations, traumatic past experiences, anxiety, difficult background, health issues and behaviours. Ass a result of these, they have struggled to maintain a happy and fulfilling school life.

Behaviour Mentor and Support Assistants that support in these environments will help pupils to learn tools that will enable them to cope with their behaviours, understand their thought processes and learn boundaries and behavioural support strategies that will allow them to enjoy school, grow in self esteem and confidence, become happier and have a better wellbeing outside education as well as in a school environment.

These schools will support both Primary and Secondary aged pupils and behaviours will range from mild to challenging dependant on the child's needs and Statement. Children with these needs, will have a behaviour management plan put in place which will teach the children to follow structure and boundaries which in turn should lead to more positive behaviours.

You dont need experience in a behaviour setting, Pupil Referral Unit or similar setting to this, to thrive working with children with challenging behaviours. However you do need:

  • Patience
  • Understanding - There is a reason for the Children's behaviours and that everyone is a product of background and experience.
  • Positive mind-set Some of these children have been through traumatic experiences and had a lot of negative influences in their life. You must be as positive as possible, and the children will really thrive on this.
  • Resilience Days will bring victories and challenges. Any behaviours are not personal and so you must be able to deal with any behaviours in an appropriate way and come back the next day with a positive attitude.
  • Creativity - children will love to express themselves through music, drama, art, sports, dance and many other medias. It is important that you engage as much as possible with the children so you build up positive relationships with them. This in turn will help their behaviours.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Enthusiasm
