This is an all through school which provides places to Primary and Secondary age children between the ages of 3 and 18 years old. They are a Jewish faith school so all pupils are of the Jewish faith, although staff come from a range of cultures and beliefs. In the Secondary classes, boys and girls are taught separately. The classes are organised by age groups as well as by the severity of the children's needs. Pupils have a range of Special Educational Needs from Moderate to Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties. Pupils with PMLD are non-verbal and mostly wheelchair users and the school has resources on site to hoist pupils with such needs. They work to a sensory based curriculum whereas pupils who are more able will work to P scales or an adapted Primary national curriculum.
SEN Teaching Assistant responsibilities:
- Supporting a class of girls in Key Stage 3 who have Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties
- Engaging with the children to ensure they access the curriculum
- Carrying out behaviour management in line with the school's policies and procedures
- Supporting pupils with personal care as required (this will involve assisting another member of staff)
- Accompanying the class on school trips as required
- Being proactive in the class to ensure your learning support is tailored to each child's individual needs
The school are looking for individuals with a passion for supporting vulnerable children and who have some personal or professional experience supporting Special Educational Needs. If you have a family member with SEN or have worked on a voluntary capacity with such needs this is valuable experience which will prepare you well for the role. Most importantly you must be friendly, enthusiastic and positive to engage with the children. This is a lovely class of girls who really need some consistency so if you are looking to settle into a position please apply now!
