JOB DESCRIPTION

Horizon Teachers are working closely with a Special Needs primary school in Feltham, who are seeking SEN Teaching Assistants for an immediate start.

The school caters for 140 children, aged 3 to 11 years old, across two sites. The children have severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties, and some of whom also have an additional diagnosis of autism.

In this Ofsted Good' school the pupils enjoy learning and are challenged in every lesson to develop personally and educationally. The school has recently undergone new building works, such as providing new enhanced outdoor play areas, as well as developments in its teaching and learning focus.

What does this role involve?
• Opportunity for full time or part time hours
• A long term role with a view to becoming permanent
• Supporting pupils to access learning activities in the classroom
• Participating in extra-curricular or out of classroom activities, such as swimming
• Collaborating with, and providing feedback to, the classroom teacher about pupils progress
• Working with colleagues to support pupils physical, mental and personal hygiene needs throughout the school day

What characteristics do you need to be successful in this role?
• Experience of working with children (classroom experience is not essential)
• A compassionate, friendly and patient manner
• Strong communication skills
• A First Aid qualification is desirable (or a willingness to obtain one)
• Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools Or equivalent is desirable but not essential

A growing number of children and young people in the UK are being identified as having Special Educational Needs (SEN) whether academic, physical, mental health/medical or behavioural.
