…Is based in Surrey and is a maintained Secondary Special School for 11-19 year old students with severe and complex learning difficulties, some of whom have an autistic spectrum disorder in addition to their learning difficulty. The school has a strong focus on supporting students on their journey to adulthood, taking their individual needs into account at each step. Every pupil is valued and challenged to succeed to the best of their ability in all aspects of their learning, with progress recognised and celebrated.
The experienced and committed staff work closely with students and their families to develop independence and confidence in a safe environment, as well as supporting their emotional health and well-being. The curriculum is taught within a positive atmosphere that promotes enthusiasm, motivation, confidence and enjoyment for both staff and students.
…Is full time, 5 days a week through the school term, from 8:30am to 3:30pm. The Teaching Assistant will be working with a Key Stage 4 and 5 class, the students in the class have severe learning difficulties (SLD). It is therefore very important that you have experience of working with SLD, or at minimum a good understanding of what’s expected when supporting children and young adults with learning difficulties.
The class has around 7 students however you will mainly be working on a 1:1 basis, supporting the student with basic communication, socialising, arts, swimming and encouraging independence and life skills. This role will include personal care, you will be provided with training and won’t be expected to do it straight away.
The school are looking for someone who is caring, creative and passionate, it is important for them to have someone who has a real love for working with children and supporting students with special educational needs.

Previous experience working in KS4/5 setting

A good working knowledge of Severe Learning difficulties
