This ‘outstanding’ school based in Surrey is a maintained special school for children between the ages of 4 and 16 years of age. The school caters for pupils with learning and additional needs (LAN), and other special educational needs, including language and communication. The school deliver a modified National Curriculum, with a strong focus on core literacy, numeracy and communication skills. The curriculum is adapted to the schools aim, to develop creativity, communication and social skills, to provide support in order for their students succeed in life independently.

What does the teaching role entail?

The school are looking for a teacher to join the primary team, you will be covering a year 5 class for an 2 term period so it is important that you’re committed to the role. You will need to be able to understand and adapt to each student, offering support and a variety of teaching styles that will be able to meet the individual learning needs. Also, you will be responsible for organising and maintaining a stimulating and friendly learning environment, with the help of the teaching assistants allocated to the class. The school are looking for someone who is a team player, has effective IT skills and it is important be confident in your teaching and curriculum based knowledge.

As a teacher in a Complex Needs School you can expect to have smaller class sizes as well as on the job support from both your classroom assistants, and senior members of staff. A Secondary Academy situated in Greenwich is currently looking for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join their Designated Special Provision (DSP) team and work full time, 5 days a week commencing Monday 7th January 2019 until the end of the academic year. Staff support pupils with MLD all of who receive full-time shared support across the board of the NC Curriculum either in the mainstream school or in the DSP.
