JOB DESCRIPTION

A growing number of children in the UK are being identified as having social, emotional and behavioral difficulties (SEBD). Many improvements have been made to support them within Primary Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) and Primary SEBD schools. These developments have led to an increase in the demand for qualified Teachers to work in these special settings. The benefits include:

  • Teaching small classes of up to 10 students, sometimes on a one to one basis
  • Creatively planning and differentiating your lessons for individualised learning
  • Working in collaboration with a range of specialists (e.g. therapists and counsellors)
  • Opportunities to learn more with ongoing training
  • Gain additional qualifications
  • Feeling supported with a high ratio of staff to students
  • State of the art facilities and resources
  • CPD with comparatively fast career progression
  • SEN points in addition to your annual salary

To be successful in a PRU or SEBD school you will need:

  • QTS (or comparable qualifications to teach in the UK)
  • A dynamic and creative approach to teaching
  • An ability to engage students and promote independence
  • A good basic understanding of SEN and additional needs
  • Assertiveness
  • To work effectively with other members of staff and external agencies
  • A willingness to learn and develop your own knowledge and skill set

So whether you are an experienced SEBD Teacher or someone who is seeking a change from the mainstream Primary classroom, Horizon Teachers can help. Our consultants are all former Teachers who can guide you through the whole process in finding your perfect teaching role within a PRU or SEBD school. We have opportunities in Key stage 1 and 2, starting now and in September so please apply with your CV or contact our dedicated team for more information; we look forward to hearing from you.
