Horizon Teachers have been working with Specialist and Mainstream schools across London for the past 10 years. We have fantastic relationships with our schools and I have an vibrant and engaging Primary School in the Heart of Croydon looking for a Year 6 teacher, specialising in Autism and challenging behaviours to join their friendly staff team for February 2019.

This role is full time, 5 days a week and will be covering a Maternity position. The School is very keen to meet applicants as soon as possible. This role would enhance your skills supporting children with Autism, and the staff who are very knowledgeable and experienced supporting these children will be on hand every step of the way.

This school has won awards for its support and provision for children with Special Education needs and so this is a very special place to work where you will learn new skills, enhance your current skills and get to spend time with a group of kids who thrive with the right support and behaviour guidelines.

Due to the needs of the children, strong behaviour management skills are a must as children with Autism struggle to communicate their feelings emotions and will see the world differently. Due to this, they may express their frustrations verbally and also physically. Staff who are successful in giving these children the optimum support, have good de-escalation techniques and able to calmly diffuse situations in a positive way. You will also need to adapt your communication skills for the children you are supporting. Knowledge of pecs and symbols will be useful.
