A very special school based in Hindhead, Surrey are seeking a very forward-thinking and highly motivated individual to join them with immediate effect to liaise with stakeholders offering apprenticeships and internships and mentoring young people as they start these roles in addition to, providing practical support to young people as they apply for, interview and begin a placement

It goes without saying that you have…

• A confident yet flexible approach
• Show initiative as to how pupils can contribute positively to the local community and wider society
• An ability to establish and maintain relationships with a variety of people at different levels within organisations
• Excellent working knowledge of MS Office products particularly Publisher, Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint
• A clean Driving License

This particular school makes provision for children who have acquired processing delays due to: acute or chronic medical needs, mild cerebral palsy; those whose mental and/or emotional health is at risk due to direct or indirect trauma; and those whose mild autism creates learning needs.

Your role will involve…

• Building a portfolio of businesses and work with companies that are hosting placements
• Manage a caseload of pupils supporting them with their transferable skills and abilities as the move into sustained employment
• Providing practical support with application forms, interview preparations
• Ensuring pupils get the aftercare support they need to maintain the placement

The school provides places for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) including Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Autism, Down's Syndrome, Physical Disabilities and other Complex Needs. Students in the school are very friendly, positive and eager to learn, a real joy to work with!The Learning Support Mentor will be working in the post-16 provision at the school which consists of 23 students aged between 16 and 19 years old. These students are verbal and capable but need support in developing functional and life skills to prepare them for entering higher education and the world of work. None of the students have behavioural difficulties and the majority are working to entry level (equivalent to a 7 year old) although some are working to a foundation GCSE level.The provision has the following excellent resources and facilities:IT roomGarden - maintained by the students and a horticulturist who attends weeklyKitchenLarge classroomsStaff room - provides a safe space for students tooCafe - run by staff and studentsThe Learning Support Mentor will support students in developing life skills including cooking, gardening, and shopping (taking students to the shops). They will also support students with their core subjects: Maths, English and Science. They will be expected to model the duties involved in these tasks for students to learn how to carry out these activities independently, this will involve helping with cleaning and washing up following cooking etc.The Learning Support Mentor will help students learn social skills in weekly sessions run by one of the LSAs. This is a really varied and interesting role, the successful applicant will potentially be taken onto a permanent contract in the school if they work in an effective way!The school has parking facilities but can otherwise be reached by train.
