Job Description

  • Supporting KS3/4 students in the Science department
  • Advising teaching staff on technical processes
  • Mentoring targeted students in the science department and working with small focus groups
  • Ensuring all lab equipment is useable and practical lessons are prepared before class
  • Working within the A level lessons supporting the teacher
  • The role would suit a recent Science Graduate or an experienced science technician

Would you like to work in a Good Secondary School? Horizon Teachers are seeking a Technician to join an outstanding Design Technology Department, this post is primarily to support the Food Technology and Textiles subject areas. The school are looking for a suitable candidate that is up to the challenge of enthusing and inspiring students to achieve their potential by supporting the teaching and learning of a broad and exciting curriculum. Experience and Skills This post would suit someone with previous technician experience looking for a new challenge, or someone with previous experience of working with young people within an educational environment. Current certification in first aid, manual handling and working at height training would be beneficial but not essential as training will be provided as part of the staff CPD programme. Candidates need to have good IT, numerical and literacy skills in order to complete paperwork, monitor stock and complete orders to a high level of efficiency. Applicants for this post will be required to complete a Level 1 & 2 Food Safety and Hygiene certificate or equivalent if they do not already have this qualification. Suitable applicants for this post should have a knowledge and experience of Textiles, including the preparation and production of textiles based products, the use of other textiles techniques such as Batik, Applique, weaving, embroidery etc. Candidates should be experienced in the safe and effective use of sewing machines, over-lockers, heat presses, irons etc. in addition to general maintenance of these items. Science Graduate Teaching Assistant

About you: Recent graduate in any Science discipline Genuine passion for Science Enthusiastic, passionate and sensitive to others needs Able to remain calm under pressure and prioritise what needs to be done Desire to train as a teacher in the near future Your daily role as a Teaching Assistant will be very varied, and no two days are ever the same! In a typical day, you may be supporting a pupil on a 1:1 basis, supervising lunchtime activities, providing feedback to the teacher about pupil progress, and helping to prepare resources for lessons the next day. Other days may involve accompanying pupils on school trips, or leading activities with small groups of pupils with additional learning needs.
