A position has just become available at a recently opened Independent Alternative Education School in Romford. The school caters for students with Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD) as an interim school between a mainstream school and a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU). The school is run by a charity founded in 1989 with a vision to deliver an alternative education programme to students with SEBD. Students in the school range from Year 7 to 13 and have had a very disrupted education as a result of difficult home lives and past trauma. As a result of this they are unable to continue in their mainstream schools and require specialist support.

The role will be to teach GCSE English to students in Year 11 who are very low level. There are 10 students in the class and the focus of the teacher will be to fill gaps in their learning as well as supporting their return to mainstream school as quickly as possible. Students in the school are either at risk of, or have already been, temporarily/permanently excluded from their mainstream school.

To be successful in this role you will:

Have QTS or QTLS - Essential
Hold a degree/PGCE in English or humanities subject - Desirable
Preferably have experience of working with young people who display challenging behaviour
Ideally have experience of working in a UK Secondary School
Have strong behaviour management skills and an enthusiasm for teaching hard to reach students

The school are seeking a confident, articulate teacher who is familiar with PRU environments and can commit to a permanent position. This is an excellent opportunity for teachers looking to transition from a mainstream secondary school!

The position has become available due to long term sickness and as such the school are looking to interview and appoint an immediate replacement. Interviews will take place next week on 3rd/4th September so please apply now for an immediate interview and opportunity to meet the school!
