Learning Support Mentor positions

Horizon Teachers are working with a Primary SEN School in Wandsworth for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder who are seeking additional support staff due to a recent intake of children with statements for Special Educational Needs. The school are seeking Learning Support Mentors to work on a flexible basis as well as those who are looking for consistent Full time, Long term work. The specialist school caters for pupils with a statements of Special Education Needs (SEN) including Moderate Learning Needs, Speech and Language Difficulties, associated learning behaviours and those with an additional diagnosis of Autism.

The positions will start after half term on 29th October and the full time hours are from 8.30am to 4pm Monday to Friday. Applicants starting on a supply basis will have the opportunity to go into a long term position in the school if they work well there. The Learning Support Mentor will work with children across a range of ages in Primary from Nursery to Year 6.

The main aim of the school is to equip pupils with life skills in order for them to achieve their potential and develop the greatest degree of independence in communication, social competence, thinking and learning and sensory regulation as far as possible for each person.
The school's facilities are funded well and have a range of sensory resources and well-equipped large classrooms. Lessons are planned and communicated well between class teachers and teaching assistants and well-resourced. There are therapists and sports coaches who work with the pupils on a regular basis encouraging a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

You will provide general support to the teacher including support and management of pupils in lessons, at swimming, playtime, leisure and lunchtimes and the preparation of teaching resources and displays.

The head of school is looking for a Learning Support Mentor who will:
• Have experience/interest of working with children/young people in some capacity
• SEN experience including Autism - Desirable
• Minimum GCSE Grade C in Maths and English
• Have excellent communication skills
• Be positive and enjoy a challenge
• Have a DBS (we can support with your application)

If you have experience of working on cases for safeguarding, child protection and on a 1:1 basis or with small groups of pupils then this could be the perfect role for you. This Ofsted ‘Good` rated Secondary school based in the borough of Hillingdon is keen to appoint graduates with a degree relating to Education or an experienced Behaviour Maentor who has worked with pupils in the past and has experience with safeguarding and child protection.  The SENCO is looking for candidates who can bring proactivity/ flexibility and be good team members for highly successful department. The school offer CPD and this is an excellent opportunity to gain experience and develop into a role. This role is fast paced, and you will be required to attend meetings with outside agencies.
