Learning Support Mentor
- Secondary Complex Needs School
- Provision for post-16 students
- Full time hours 8.30am to 4pm
- £60 to £80 per day
- School based in Addlestone
- Start date - 26th November
An exciting opportunity has just become available to work as a Learning Support Mentor at a lovely Complex Needs School in Addlestone. The school provides places for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) including Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Autism, Down's Syndrome, Physical Disabilities and other Complex Needs. Students in the school are very friendly, positive and eager to learn, a real joy to work with!
The Learning Support Mentor will be working in the post-16 provision at the school which consists of 23 students aged between 16 and 19 years old. These students are verbal and capable but need support in developing functional and life skills to prepare them for entering higher education and the world of work. None of the students have behavioural difficulties and the majority are working to entry level (equivalent to a 7 year old) although some are working to a foundation GCSE level.
The provision has the following excellent resources and facilities:
- IT room
- Garden - maintained by the students and a horticulturist who attends weekly
- Large classrooms
- Staff room - provides a safe space for students too
- Cafe - run by staff and students
The Learning Support Mentor will support students in developing life skills including cooking, gardening, and shopping (taking students to the shops). They will also support students with their core subjects: Maths, English and Science. They will be expected to model the duties involved in these tasks for students to learn how to carry out these activities independently, this will involve helping with cleaning and washing up following cooking etc.The Learning Support Mentor will help students learn social skills in weekly sessions run by one of the LSAs. This is a really varied and interesting role, the successful applicant will potentially be taken onto a permanent contract in the school if they work in an effective way!
The school has parking facilities but can otherwise be reached by train. Applicants who live near Clapham or Waterloo can reach the school easily.
Please apply now to be considered for this position, the school are looking to trial suitable applicants this week!
