Support in SEN

A growing number of children and young people in the UK are being identified as having Special Educational Needs (SEN) whether academic, physical, mental health/medical or behavioural. Many improvements have been made to support children within specialist provisions such as Complex Needs Schools and Pupil Referral Units (PRUs). These developments have led to an increase in the demand for qualified Teachers.

The benefits of Supporting in a SEN setting include:

Learning Support Assistant - Supporting SEN

Learning Support Assistant - Supporting SEN * Primary School, Key Stage 2 * North London- Tottenham Area * Starting January 2019 A large Primary School in North London is looking for a Learning Support Assistant to be based in Key Stage 2. This position is starting in January 2019 for the rest of the academic year. This position is to support a child with ADHD the child has emotional reactions when frustrated, this is sometimes expressed by the pupil in aggression. The  child responds well to individuals with a calm and patient attitude. The SENCO has developed a strong working relationship with them and is working to support the child and family in and outside of the school environment. The successful applicant will be required to support the child with their learning and also with their behavioural and social development. The child can be easily distracted and find is very difficult to focus when working in the classroom. So the school have scheduled some time in for them outside of the classroom to work. Due to the child's volatile behaviour golden time is allocated to them when they become distracted and anxious, this is when a sports background would come in to effect to help calm them down. You dont need experience to work in a Pupil Referral Unit, but to be a successful Learning Support Assistant and to give the best to the children who attend these settings you need to be: Resilient Positive - Some of the children have had a negative view of their school life, and also had many negative and distressing experiences outside of their learning environment, so the staff must exude positivity as this will impact hugely on the pupils mood and their whole time in the school. Proactive - Children and the Schools love it when staff get involved with all the activities, and think of new activities that will engage the children in their learning. Dont sit on the sidelines! If there's something that needs to be done, get involved! Creative - Children will express themselves through drama, music, art and sports. You will need to be able to understand and adapt to each student, offering support and a variety of teaching styles that will be able to meet the individual learning needs. Also, you will be responsible for organising and maintaining a stimulating and friendly learning environment, with the help of the teaching assistants allocated to the class.
