JOB DESCRIPTION

A growing number of children and young people in the UK are being identified as having Special Educational Needs (SEN) whether academic, physical, mental health/medical or behavioural. Many improvements have been made to support these children within specialist provisions such as Complex Needs Schools and Pupil Referral Units (PRUs). These developments have led to an increase in the demand for qualified Teachers.

The benefits include:

  • Teaching small classes of up to 10 students, sometimes on a one to one basis
  • Creatively planning and differentiating your lessons for individualised learning
  • Working in collaboration with a range of specialists (e.g. therapists and counsellors)
  • Opportunities to learn more with ongoing training
  • Gaining relevant qualifications
  • A high ratio of staff to students
  • State of the art facilities and resources
  • CPD with comparatively fast career progression
  • SEN points in addition to your annual salary

To be successful in a Complex Needs school or PRU you will need:

  • QTS (or comparable qualifications to teach in the UK)
  • A dynamic and creative approach to teaching
  • An ability to engage students and promote independence
  • A good general understanding of SEN and additional needs
  • Or a good general understanding of Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD)
  • To work effectively with other members of staff and external professionals
  • A willingness to learn and develop your own knowledge and skill set

We work with a range of SEN schools and PRUs across London, Hertfordshire, Surrey, Essex and Kent offering part time and full time positions. So whether you are an experienced SEN Teacher or someone who is seeking a change from the mainstream classroom, Horizon Teachers can help! Our Consultants are all former Teachers who can guide you through the whole process in finding your perfect teaching role within a non-mainstream school. We have opportunities in Key stage 1 to 5, starting now and in September so please apply with your CV or contact our dedicated SEN team for more information; we look forward to hearing from you!
