Are you an experienced and motivated behaviour mentor who is looking for an exciting new opportunity within a good secondary school?.

Horizon Teachers is currently working with a good secondary school based in the borough of Southwark who are looking to appoint a passionate behaviour mentor to cover long term sickness.
The staff within the school holds the unshakable belief that every child can achieve their full potential given the right support and challenge.
The school itself is fairly new having opened in September 2013 with the ambition to become an outstanding local school which they are on track to become having already become the school of choice for many families in their local community.

The role itself will be ideal for someone with previous experience as a behaviour mentor but isn’t essential, you will be responsible for mentoring challenging students to try and get through to the root of their behavioural issues, managing the internal exclusion room which is where students who have been sent out of class for bad behaviour will attend, liaising with department leaders as well as being in contact with the parents of students who end up in the exclusion room, you will also be acting as a positive role model for students around the school at all times.

Noted in their in their latest Ofsted report ‘Pupils attendance and behaviour have improved over time so that they are now good, leaders and staff have developed effective procedures that improve pupils attitudes to school life and learning, The schools work to support vulnerable pupils is strong, members of the schools pastoral team including heads of house work well together to improve pupils performance, this is particularly the case for the higher than average proportion of pupils who join the school midyear’.

ASD Learning Support Mentor

£70 - £80 per day
ASD Learning Support Mentor Do you want to be part of a small and friendly Independent School for pupils with a diagnosis or Autism, Additional Learning Difficulties and Complex Needs? Do you have the patience, resilience and empathy to work with pupils one to one and in small groups? Are you a team player and love working with children with a range of learning abilities? The school provides places for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) including Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Autism, Down's Syndrome, Physical Disabilities and other Complex Needs. Students in the school are very friendly, positive and eager to learn, a real joy to work with!The Learning Support Mentor will be working in the post-16 provision at the school which consists of 23 students aged between 16 and 19 years old. These students are verbal and capable but need support in developing functional and life skills to prepare them for entering higher education and the world of work. None of the students have behavioural difficulties and the majority are working to entry level (equivalent to a 7 year old) although some are working to a foundation GCSE level.The provision has the following excellent resources and facilities:IT roomGarden - maintained by the students and a horticulturist who attends weeklyKitchenLarge classroomsStaff room - provides a safe space for students tooCafe - run by staff and studentsThe Learning Support Mentor will support students in developing life skills including cooking, gardening, and shopping (taking students to the shops). They will also support students with their core subjects: Maths, English and Science. They will be expected to model the duties involved in these tasks for students to learn how to carry out these activities independently, this will involve helping with cleaning and washing up following cooking etc.The Learning Support Mentor will help students learn social skills in weekly sessions run by one of the LSAs.
