The High School Computer Science Teacher will be responsible for teaching courses that may include the following: • AP Computer Science Principles• AP Computer Science A• Introduction to Programming• Art and Code• Advanced Topics in Computer Science• Other elective courses, in accordance with the experience of a successful applicantSummary of duties●Teach 5 classes including high school computer science and/or selected courses in mathematics, science, engineering, or middle-school computer science.●Prepare, coordinate and plan the curriculum with other members of the department, and liaise with other departments as appropriate.●Monitor and evaluate students' progress, prepare for parent conferences, complete report cards, etc.●Organize and participate in field trips to facilitate active learning.●Participate in regular, purposeful pedagogy meetings around standards-based education and in professional development sessions.●Participate actively in the life of the school through attendance at events, committee membership and leadership of extracurricular activities.●Any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the principal.Selection criteriaQualifications/experience:●A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline●Familiarity with multiple computer languages●Substantive experience teaching a variety of computer science courses at the high school level.●Flexibility, creativity, and a collaborative approach with instructional strategies and departmental work●Significant recent professional development●Strong oral and written communication skills and a desire to work in a team-focused environment.●Training and experience in cultural competency initiatives to support diversity, equity and inclusion in the classroom and workplace.●Willingness to contribute to school life and activities in additional ways through coaching, advising and special projects.●A proven commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of childrenDesirable qualifications/experience:●Advanced degree preferred.●Experience teaching the AP curriculum or IB with Java. ●Experience within a standards based curriculum●Ability to teach a broad range of computer science and technology courses.●Experience in the application of CS in other subject areas such as art, science, or social studies●Experience teaching in other subject areas, specifically in mathematics, science, or engineering.●Related-industry experience.Send your CV to rebeccacooke@horizonteachers.com if you would like to apply for this position.
