JOB DESCRIPTION

Pod Leader

Are you an amateur boxer who has a boxing license and a keen interest in education? Wouldn't it be great if you could combined the two into a job? I'm currently seeking someone for a very niche role for an alternative education pathway who cater for students between the ages of fourteen and sixteen who are at risk of exclusion.

We all know the challenges involved when working with young people especially when that young person you are supporting has had a tough upbringing and/or a home life. Pupils who are taught in alternative provisions often feel not wanted and find it difficult to manage their emotions as a result of this and let's face it, sometimes you just want to give up through exhaustion! This is the exact reason why they feel let down.

Their unique model offers intense mentoring and support for young people, placing them in a class of eight students with a dedicated boxer who acts as a mentor, teacher support and coach throughout their stay. They develop a strong relationship that provides a foundation from which the student can embark upon a positive cycle of achievement.

They use the beneficial effects of sport to empower their students, teach them to manage their anger, give them confidence in their learning and direct them towards further education, training or employment.

The Academy based in Hackney offers places for 40 boys and girls at Key Stage 4 currently with a reduced curriculum of 5 GCSE's or equivalent supplemented by a wide range of enrichment activities. They were rated Good' overall in their Ofsted report, with Outstanding' for Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare. 100% of their leavers have gone on to further education or employment.
