This role would suit someone who has experience working with pupils who require support or a recent graduate looking to work in a school.

As a Teaching Assistant you will be working within all departments department supporting and progressing students of all abilities. A background in Maths and Science would be looked upon favourably but not essential. You will work alongside experienced teachers and other teaching assistants to provide in class support as well as working with students in small groups and on a one to one basis.
You will gain a valuable insight into the role of a teacher and develop skills that can be used throughout teacher training.

The ideal TA would need the following experience and personal qualities:

  • An understanding of autism
  • The ability to use de-escalation strategies effectively
  • The ability to manage challenging behaviour calmly
  • Willingness to support an ASD students 1-2-1 during break and lunchtimes (the TA would have break and lunch beforehand)
  • The ability to use initiative effectively
  • The ability to work closely with a team
  • The ability to cope with sudden changes of plan
  • Willingness to be physically active
