A special School based in East London for pupils aged 11 to 19 who have severe learning difficulties are looking for a Learning Support Mentor to work on a Full time, Long term basis from 17th September.
About the school…
There is a clear focus on learning through a highly developed curriculum in a pupil centered learning environment. The school provides outstanding education for its students. This is based on extremely effective care, guidance and support provided by all staff that ensures students make exemplary progress in developing both their personal and subject skills. There is a clear focus on continuous improvement and pupils are encouraged to develop their individual skills and abilities so that they can be as independent as possible.
Students are taught as individuals and learn in a positive, supportive learning environment. The curriculum enables pupils to make sense of the world and to operate more effectively within it so that, as individuals, they become more contributing and valued members of society.
The successful applicant will be supporting students across all secondary ages who have severe and profound learning difficulties. The nature of the students' SEN means they are unable to access a mainstream curriculum and require specialist support to develop basic communication skills and fine motor skills. The Learning Support Mentor will at times provide personal care to students, assisting them with feeding, changing and going to the toilet. Many students are wheelchair users with restricted mobility however the school is designed to cater to such needs.
This is an ‘Outstanding’ School with a dedicated staff team who devote their time to inspire and develop each individual’s education and social skills. This is a great opportunity for individuals who are really looking to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable students and who are looking to gain further experience with SEN. Prior experience is not essential, the school are more interested in passionate, driven individuals who are keen to work with SEN and can be a dynamic, energetic presence within the classroom.
To apply: Submit your CV or call and ask to speak to the SEN team for an immediate interview and opportunity to meet with the school.
