JOB DESCRIPTION

Horizon Teachers is currently working closely with an Outstanding School in East London who is looking for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to work within and take a lead in their excellent support department.

The role of a Higher Level Teaching Assistant will suit experienced support staff who are looking for a role with added responsibility. You will be working in a large support team delivering learning support to students of all ages and abilities. Within the role you will be supporting in the class room as well as in small targeted intervention groups and one to one. Another duty will be to support other teaching and learning support assistants throughout their day. You will work alongside learning support assistants and direct their time in and out of lessons.

The school is situated in West London and has been graded as Outstanding in its previous two Ofsted inspections. The pupils are calm and well behaved and all staff are supported by an established senior leadership team. Teachers and Support staff work together to ensure that all pupils progress. Motivation amongst staff is high with many staff progressing within the school to take on extra responsibilities. Achievement is high and this fully inclusive environment means that every student is valued and catered for throughout their school life.

As an HLTA you must have experience of working in schools as either a teaching assistant or learning support assistant. You must also have experience of working with students who have special educational needs, having an HLTA qualification would be seen as an advantage but is not essential as the school will offer training every two weeks to candidates. Having experience of managing individuals will also be an advantage but not essential.

The school are looking to appoint ASAP with the position starting in September 2019 and a handover to be done in July 2019.

The school wish to appoint a well qualified and dedicated member of support staff to work as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant. As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) you will help in lessons to support pupils with Special Educational needs, you will also work with the team of teaching assistants to plan and deliver support across the school. Part of the role will be to take responsibility for overseeing and distributing daily timetable changes to the support curriculum. As an HLTA you will also be responsible for providing teachers with resources to support the delivery of the schools support curriculum and, working under the instruction of the Head of Learning Support, will deliver some specific interventions to pupils in years 7 to 11.The school would also like you to be able to act as a first aider, and you will receive appropriate training for this.
