At Horizon Teachers, we understand the importance of enhancing children’s education and nurturing their growth and development, particularly those who are disadvantaged. We are proud to be supporting CHICKS charity, which provides free, week-long respite breaks in Devon, Cornwall or Derbyshire to disadvantaged children aged 8-15 across the UK.
CHICKS was founded in 1992 by two teachers from Devon who wanted to help the many disadvantaged children in the UK that had never had the joy of a proper break. They felt the children would greatly benefit from a free respite break away from their disadvantaged home lives.
CHICKS support children from a variety of disadvantaged backgrounds, including children who act as young carers, live in poverty, are subjected to abuse and much more.
With CHICKS charity, Horizon Teachers sends a disadvantaged child from a London school on a CHICKS break each year. This break gives them the opportunity to increase their confidence, benefit from positive experiences and develop valuable social skills.
Schools can act as a referral agent by referring any child that could benefit from a CHICKS break. As CHICKS is ASDAN accredited, children attending a CHICKS break during term-time will still be marked as present on their school register under Category B.
