Special Needs Teaching Assistant

The role is starting in September 2020 and will continue in the first instance until the end of the academic year. For the right candidate the role will then continue into the next academic year. The role is full time from 8.30am to 4.00pm. The school is a popular school which has an inspirational Head Teacher and very supportive staff. Training is provided throughout the year and Learning Support Assistants work closely with the SENCO who has been at the school for many years and can provide advice and guidance. The staff that we have working for us at this school have given us very positive feedback about it. The staff who do daily cover for us often request to go back to certain schools and this is normally one of the ones that is requested. The school was recently renovated and the classrooms have a modern feel and are equipped with state of the art facilities (promethean smart boards and i-pads for digital lessons). The school is located close to 2 London Overground stations and is well connected to the rest of London by bus. There is also parking at the school. The role is to support a year 1 pupil who has mild autism. He is a motivated and hard-working boy but sometimes he can become very distracted in lessons and needs to be refocussed. He can get agitated if his routine is changed and he likes things to be consistent. He is not physically violent but he does move around when he gets worried. He responds well to his current LSA but they are moving on to a school closer to where they live. You will be supporting him within the classroom and also taking him out of the class for one-to-one support.The ideal candidate is someone who has experience working within a primary school as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant and experience working with children or adults who have autistic spectrum disorder. Any experience working with young children (Scouts, Teaching Assistant work, mentoring, coaching, tutoring, clubs etc.) will strengthen your application.
