Are you a passionate, patient and nurturing Teaching Assistant with experience or an interest in supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities?

Horizon Teachers are currently working with a specialist SEND school in Barking who are looking for dedicated and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistants to join their team on a full-time, temporary basis until July 2027.

The school caters for children with a range of complex needs, including autism, speech, language and communication needs, moderate to profound learning difficulties, as well as additional sensory, physical, social and emotional needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a real difference to the lives of children who require additional support. You will play an important role in helping pupils access learning, develop their communication and independence, and reach their individual potential.

The role:

Providing dedicated one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with a range of SEND.
Supporting children with autism, communication needs and moderate to profound learning difficulties.
Assisting pupils with their learning, personal development and daily routines.
Supporting children’s communication, social interaction and emotional wellbeing.
Helping pupils manage sensory needs and encouraging independence wherever possible.
Working closely with class teachers and other professionals to deliver tailored support.
Providing personal care where required.

What we’re looking for:

Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND is highly desirable.
Experience supporting children with autism, communication needs or learning difficulties would be advantageous.
A patient, caring and nurturing approach.
The ability to adapt to the individual needs of each pupil.
A proactive and flexible attitude, with the ability to use your own initiative.
A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs and helping them achieve their potential.

From the start, Paul (Primary Team) and David (Secondary Team) have both been incredibly supportive, approachable, and professional, making the whole process smooth and reassuring.

I’ve been working with both a primary and a secondary consultant, and the communication between them has been excellent. They’ve always been available to answer questions and provide guidance whenever needed.

The support I received before starting my placement was especially helpful. My consultant gave me great insight into the school, which really helped me feel prepared and confident going in. I also completed their Teaching Assistant training, along with Safeguarding Level 1 and Level 2, which were both very informative and valuable.

A special thanks to David for checking in with me when things were a bit challenging — it really made a difference and showed genuine care and support.

Overall, I’ve felt well-supported throughout my journey so far and would definitely recommend their service to others.

The ones that create empty promises to keep your interest and who want to benefit more from your hardwork than yourself. Melanie proved that Horizon was a cut above the rest. From the very start, Melanie was keen on getting employment that fulfilled my wishes. My agency contact, Alexa, has been great at providing information, fixing any miscommunications and has personally chased after my timesheet approvals. I have already recommended Horizon to friends as well as a coworker who had problems with their own agency and I would definitely recommend Horizon again as a great agency for TA's.

They didn't prep me anything about the school other than where it is, the age group and department that I'll be in but, I'm sure if I had asked for more details they would have provided them without issue. I’d especially like to mention David, who I’ve been working with since September. He has been incredibly supportive, always approachable, and very quick to respond to any questions or concerns.
